Andrew Gottscho, Ph.D.
Welcome to my website. I am currently a Software Field Operations Engineer at 10x Genomics in Pleasanton, California, where I support bioinformatics software for single-cell gene expression, targeted V(D)J assays, de novo genome assembly, and structural variant analysis. Before that I was a Peter Buck Postdoctoral Fellow at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History, where I studied the biogeography and speciation of lizards in southwestern North America and the Caribbean. My research is grounded in evolutionary theory and integrates across the fields of genomics, bioinformatics, biogeography, zoology, and geology. The power of genomics is rapidly changing our world, so I am especially interested in applying next-generation sequencing approaches to modern challenges in biodiversity conservation, global sustainability, and human health. In my spare time I enjoy photography and a variety of outdoor/ocean sports so this website also functions as a creative outlet to share my awe of nature with others.
